… This is real, this is me
I'm exactly where I'm supposed to be …
These lyrics (sung by Demi Lovato and Joe Jonas in Camp Rock) popped unexpectedly into my mind as I sat down to write this introductory post. They’re a blast from the distant past (I can’t tell you how often that movie played in my home when my girls were young!), but they ring true to me in this moment.
I’ve tried Instagram, Facebook, Pinterest, and various newsletter platforms (Mailchimp, Omnisend, Privvy) as a means of communication, but to no avail. Rather than help me get my message out, they stymied me. All I could think was, “Is this the best photo? Am I using the correct hashtags? Is my caption clever enough? Will people respond to it? Will anyone ‘like’ it?” In my desire to “do it just right”, I became parazlyzed, to where I didn’t do it at all.
Today, that’s all changing. I’ve switched to a platform that (I believe) will allow me to just be me. I’ve always loved writing, and that’s what’s celebrated here. I also love making, as evidenced by what I do for a living. I make things, which I also sell and package so others can make them too! I knit, weave, and stitch. And here, I intend to share my thoughts about all these things. Here, I will muse, and I will share those musings with you!
Welcome to “Maker Musings”.
