Welcome! I’m Susan Watkins, owner of Make & Made Fiber Crafts. I am a full-time maker who designs, knits, weaves, and sews a variety of home goods and accessories featuring bold colors, geometric shapes, and complex textures.

Maker Musings is my creative journal, so to speak. It’s a newsletter and old-style blog rolled into one. It’s my musings about making… the why, what, and how of what I do.

Why Substack?

In 2024, I launched Makers Musings as my alternative to the salesy newsletter and social media I had been told for years was a “must” in order to have a successful business. Those “musts” turned into such anxiety producing, time sucking hurdles that I chose to stay silent rather than share my making with the world. Well, that ended here… with “musings” rather than “marketing”… where I can reclaim my joy in what I do and share it with you!

I’m not looking to monetize my musings, so there’s no fee to subscribe. Rather, my goal is simply to write about what I love… to expose my process for designing and making handcrafted goods… and to encourage you to support the maker community and local artisans, or perhaps even make something yourself!
